Over the years, I have learnt how to make many things in scouting but this is something that I really want to share with you. It's an old recipe, which I've known of since the age of 9, from a scout booklet from 1988, and is still as good as it was back then.
For this recipe, you don't even need to be on camp or need any ovens of any kind for these. you can even do this at home or at your own scout HQ. So how do you make Camp Crunchies?
Let's Begin...
You will need: (Quantities for 16 bars)
3/4 cup of dried apricots
1/4 cup sultanas
4 cups of crisped rice cereal
1/2 cup of icing sugar
1 cup of powered milk
1/4 cup of toasted sesame seeds
1/2 cup of butter or margarine
1 tablespoon of syrup or honey
Method:
Cut each apricot into eight pieces and mix all the ingredients together (except the butter/margarine and syrup).
Next, melt the butter/margarine and stir in the dry ingredients, while adding the syrup at the same time.
Spread the mixture on to a tray which is an ordinary tray or one made from a double thickness of foil, which has been welled greased.
Now either allow to cool overnight (or until firm) and cut into bars or serve straight away as cereal add milk as required (remember to forget the powered milk if you plan on this one).
and there you have it. Some delicious camp crunchies which you can share with your friends and family.
Enjoy! :)
